« Giant with one hundred eyes » is a photographic installation. The buildings under construction from the pictures are the Bundesnachtrichdienst, the secret service agency, in Berlin. The composition is offering a visual route around the complex, and underlines its structure with closeups, framings and transparency. The question is our position, in relation to this type of architecture, with the knowledge of its function. We are outside of the buildings, the structures and monitoring systems are preventing any admissions. But we are also inside, our personal data will be stocked and analysed by this agency. The name of the installation comes a giant of the Greek mythology, Panoptes, which gave Panopticon. He was a watchman who had one hundred eyes. As only a few of his eyes would sleep at a time, there were always eyes still awake.
Les bâtiments représentés sur ces images font partis d’un complexe formant le nouveau siège du Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND), les services secrets allemands, à Berlin. |
